Soprano Kristin Newbegin is quickly establishing herself as an innovative and active performer in the Kansas City area. She has sung with companies such as Des Moines Metro Opera, Lyric Opera Kansas City, Opera for the Young, Kansas City Metro Opera, Seagle Music Colony, Univerity of Kansas, and University of Minnesota.
Newbegin was a Des Moines Metro Opera Apprentice, where she performed partial roles of Mimí and Marguerite. She was also a Seagle Music Colony young artist, where she sang the role of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni). Newbegin’s previous roles have included Mimí (La Bohème), Dorine (Tartuffe), Papagena (Magic Flute), Mabel (Pirates of Penzance), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Miriam (The Christmas Rose), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Female Chorus (Rape of Lucretia), Mayor’s Wife (Jenůfa), Popelka (Comedy On The Bridge), and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni).
Newbegin earned her DMA at the University of Kansas where she studied with Joyce Castle. Her research focused on Spanish song and opera, with extensive study of Granados’ opera, Goyescas. Newbegin received her M.M. in Opera Performance from University of Kansas and a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Minnesota where she studied with Wendy Zaro-Mullins.
