Dr. Elise Hepworth (soprano/mezzo-soprano) is thrilled to be joining the alto section in Kansas City's Kantorei Choral Ensemble, continuing her love for the choral arts. She is an associate professor and Director of Choral Activities and Music Education at Missouri Western State University in Saint Joseph. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University and a MME from the UMKC Conservatory of Music. In 2006, she earned a Doctorate of Arts in Music from the University of Mississippi.
Elise has performed leading roles from operas including The Ballad of Baby Doe, Into the Woods, Die Zauberflöte, The Mikado, Tartuffe, Martha, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and Le Nozze di Figaro. In 2007, she studied at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington, New Zealand, earning a graduate diploma in vocal performance. During her studies, she performed with the New Zealand Light Opera as Stella and Antonia in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann opposite international tenor, Patrick Power.
Elise has been invited by state, national, and international organizations to present her research and dissertation findings at conventions and she performs and presents regularly as a recitalist and clinician (vocal and choral) regionally, nationally, and internationally. She lives in Saint Joseph with her husband, Matt, and her two cats, Abby and Alex.
